EFL: “Want Derby to be sustainable and work“

Derby County vs the EFL seems to have been a battle that has gone on for far too long now.

Ask any Derby fan what they think of the EFL and I guarantee you that the most common answer would be “Fuck the EFL” or “They’ve got in in for us”

Who can blame fans for thinking like that, since January 2020 the EFL and Derby County have being battling out over the sale of Pride Park and Derby County’s amortisation policy.

Whilst The Rams won their case regarding the stadium sale, following appeal after appeal they were charged and fined £100k for their accounting policies. They also still need to resubmit accounts dating back to 2016. Of course now with the club in administration this will have to wait.

However, I spoke to Elias Burke, the Derby County journalist for The Athletic, who in turn had spoken to the EFL.

Despite what fans feel about the EFL according to Elias it’s quite the opposite.

On the latest episode of The Ramswriter Podcast he said the following (listen here)

“They want Derby to be a sustainable football club and they want them to work. They understand that Derby is a massive institution.”

“They are a founding member of the league and a massive club”

Only time will tell for Derby County in terms of their future.

American businessman Chris Kirchner has expressed his interest in buying the club and administrator Andy Hosking sounded very positive when speaking about him on Talksport.

“He knows his onions” and “Derby County fans can be optimistic for the future!”

It looks now like we could be seeing the beginning of the end for Derby’s financial worries. Of course finding a buyer doesn’t mean things will be OK, but it does mean manager Wayne Rooney can possibly begin planning for the January transfer window.

Regardless of what happens regarding points deductions, it looks now as if Derby fans can begin to relax a little when wondering if they will have a club in the future.

  1. The EFL are a corrupt institution who want us and are determined for us to go down whatever happens. Never has the word vendetta been more appropriate.
I think it runs very deep, the law of averages says we should have had at least 1 penalty this season, we have had at least 10 disallowed, some of them clear. Corrupt from bottom to top !!!
